Graffiti has been around since the dawn of man, spanning from painted illustrative messages on cave walls to today’s celebrity graffiti artist, like Banksy and Shepard Fairey. However, disfiguring one message for another is weak, as Banksy himself calls it a form of “low-level dissent” (Ellsworth-Jones) especially when compared to the power of mass communication.
